Why is sleep important?

Aims

To help students talk about sleep and how it affects our lives. To develop students’ reading and listening skills.

To develop students’ communication skills. To develop students’ debating skills. The learner will: research information about sleep habits and good health. discuss and make a commitment to improve sleep habits.

 

Focus

Reading, speaking, writing and listening in English Language Teaching.

Teaching results

Students learn about the importance of sleep and analyze their own rest patterns. They determine how they can improve their own sleep health.

THE PREDICTION

Greeting. Make up a dialogue. Psychological training  

 

Divide the class into two groups. Teacher gives sheets of papers with the words of proverbs.

Each group selects a speaker who has to explain and defend the choice of group. Students take sheets of paper and make the proverb.

Cards with the  proverbs.

Sleep like eating, drinking, and breathing is a basic human need!  "Early to bed and you’ll grow tall”

Brainstorming: Instruction begins by posing the questions . Students may brainstorm different ways to share the information they have learned about sleep. “What is sleep?”  How do you sleep? Do you ever wake up during the night? Are you an insomniac? Do you think it is important to sleep? Why or why not? Reading: Three thing you might /or might not/ know about sleep.

Ex.1: Discuss the following questions in small groups. The following are additional questions that can be posed to generate discussions about what sleep is and why we need it. Explain that the class is going to conduct a think-pair-share activity using these questions. Student responses could be written on the whiteboard.

Presentation of the theme. Why is sleep important?The theme of our lesson is "Why is sleep important?”. Today we are going to read texts and talk about the importance of sleep and about the causes of sleeplessness.

 

Students will work with the text: Ex: 2.

Jig saw reading 1-2-3 Why is sleep important? How much sleep is enough? What causes sleeplessness? After reading the text the teacher will divide the learners into 3groups 1-2-3

Students will discuss the text they have read the topic
